Dive into the marine world with the Platypus figurine
The platypus is a mammal that lives in the lakes and rivers of eastern Australia and Tasmania. It is one of five species of monotremes, the only oviparous mammals, that is, they lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young. The platypus has a duck's bill, webbed feet and a flattened tail resembling that of a beaver. It measures between 40 and 50 cm and can weigh 2.4 kg. It can live up to 21 years in the wild, but in captivity its life expectancy varies between 10 and 15 years. The platypus lives in lakes and small streams. It spends an average of twelve hours a day eating. Since the platypus is oviparous, it needs a burrow to lay and protect the eggs. The burrow can reach twenty meters deep.
